Playing History
Emily grew up near Cambridge and began playing the cornet aged 7. She progressed through her local Royal British Legion Training and Youth bands before switching to the euphonium and joining the Senior Band. Aged 14, she was accepted into the prestigious Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, where she received an excellent musical education and regularly performed in distinguished venues across the UK, including Manchester and Lichfield Cathedrals, Windsor Castle and the Bridgewater Hall.
Emily gained her Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, where she received lessons from David Thornton and classes with Steven Mead, plus trombone tuition from Roger Cutts. On leaving the RNCM, she was awarded the prestigious 'Harry Mortimer Brass Student of the Year' award. In 2012, Emily became a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music following a recital of contemporary music, which she also performed at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Linz, Austria.
During her time in Manchester, Emily was solo euphonium with the Marsden Silver Prize Band in Yorkshire, with Glyn Williams as Musical Director. Highlights included winning the Senior Cup contest, coming third in the All England Masters and the Scottish Open Championships, and earning several 'Best Euphonium' titles at the Whit Friday marches.
Emily now plays with the Acceler8 Band in Crewe and the Staffordshire Tuba Quartet, and takes part in as many concerts and competitions as she can around her busy life as a mum. She is regularly asked to attend rehearsals and play in concerts with several of the country's top brass bands.
In 2023, Emily travelled to the Netherlands to visit the Adams Brass Music Centre and place an order for a custom euphonium. She was delighted when she was asked to become an Adams Artist, and is proud to represent them every time she plays.
Teaching Experience
Emily ran a busy, successful Music Department in a secondary school and is confident working with students of all ages and abilities. She led numerous extra-curricular classes, including a school Orchestra, Choir and Music Theory club, and put on two large concerts a year, plus many trips out into the local community.
She now works for City Music Service (Stoke) and Entrust Music Service (Staffordshire), visiting many schools around the county, as well as serving as a specialist brass examiner for MTB and marking OCR GCSE exam papers each summer term.
Emily is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, which provides her with Public Liability Insurance. She holds Safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS certificate.
